Here’s what you need to know about Wednesday season 2
Directed by Tim Burton, the Netflix series Wednesday the Addams Family secured a milestone that only Stranger Things Season 4 and Squid Game managed to reach. What tells the real story here? Well, with 1.02 billion total hours viewed in only three weeks since its debut, and over 150 million households streaming the show tells the entire story of the success of the series. Now, the series has become the second most popular English-language series on Netflix.
Premiered on the 16th of November and then becoming a cultural phenomenon, the series inspired TikTokers around the globe, and this includes Mother Moster herself, Lady Gaga, who recreated Jenna Ortega’s choreographed dance scene in the fourth episode of the series, “Woe What a Night.” On the other hand, the series was also responsible for an increase in listening streams for Goo Goo Muck by The Cramps, and also Stranger Things resurfaced Kate Bush’s song Running Up That Hill, one that has experienced enormous popularity on Spotify and TikTok.
This may come as a surprise to many that the series has stolen the silver medal from “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” this is a biographical drama series including the star Evan Peters, an American Horror Story actor. Where Dahmer took 28 days to reach 856.2 million hours, it only took 21 days for Wednesday to become a super hit.
Gen Z’s official scream queen, Jenna Ortega, Wednesday discovers her psychic abilities in the first season. This is something that leads her to prevent a killing spree in the town that is surrounding her school, Nevermore Academy. And, somewhere around 25 years back, she makes some friends as well as some enemies as she investigates a supernatural mystery involving her beloved parents.
What should you know about season 2?
When the first season dropped right in time of Thanksgiving, we all gave thanks to the Addamss family. And now, the streaming giant is coming up with the second season of this series. On the 6th of January this year, Netflix announced on Instagram through a video, the season 2 renewal of the series is on its way. Jenna Ortega has something to say in the video- I’ve been hunted, haunted, and mimicked millions of times across the internet. The tune of the announcement video- Lady Gaga’s “Bloody Mary,” the one that became extremely popular on TikTok, with the help of Wednesday inspired dance challenge.
In the month of November during an interview with Variety, Gough and Miller said something teasingly they laid out somewhere between three to four seasons of this amazing series, and all was done with some hopes of getting it renewed. It was told by Millar to the publication which suggests that they have very clear expectations from the coming season. For them, it is always looking ahead to the future, and when they sit together to create a show, they are looking for multiple seasons.
Fred Armisen, the one who played Uncle Fester, also came up with some hopes of a sophomore season. He has a thought in his mind that it is always good to keep writing for people and keeping them engaged, and wanting more. He believes that the show has done really well to keep people engaged and waiting for the next season, it’s all exciting. On the other hand, Gwendoline Christie, who played Larissa Weems, also says something similar, she just loves the way the show leaves you wanting for more.
Will it be on Netflix?
As the series is produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), it is possible that season 2 may not be on Netflix. MGM has recently closed $8.5 billion merger with Amazon, and it is believed that the show can go to the company and streaming can be done on Prime Video. Amazon, Netflix, and MGM are yet to confirm if there are any changes made. Though Amazon may not be planning to make all the MGM content exclusively for Prime Video, it is expected that it can stay on its existing streaming service.
When is it going to come out?
On November 23, 2022, Tim Burton’s first season was released, and hence, there is no guessing if or when there will be a second season. Of course, the show had a great debut, but we are still waiting for the green light from the streaming services to start the production of the second season.
What will the second season be all about?
The first season of the series was truly amazing, and it took all of us into the world of Wednesday Addams when she was a student at Nevermore Academy. She comes to know about all her psychic abilities, and she makes some amazing attempts to solve a chilling mystery that also involves her parents, at the same time she tries hard to balance her relationships with sirens, werewolves, and vampires.
At the end of the season, she finds out that Sheriff’s son, her coffee shop crush, Tyler committed merciless murders at Nevermore, and he is the Hyde monster. She finds out one more interesting thing, Marilyn Thornhill, her botany professor is a woman whose name is Laurel Gates, and she is believed to die years back. Now she is looking to seek revenge on the Outcasts, the Hyde master who is controlling Tyler, murdered her family, also hypnotized Tyler, and brought out in a monstrous form.
Yeah, you can say that everything is still not clear. When she gets a gift from her friend, Xavier, it’s a cell phone, and she receives a threatening message that says- I’m watching you, you can also see a gif in which a knife is going right in her head. So, if the series gets renewed, this can be one of the most interesting turns in the season to come. We’re still exploring some things and we’re looking forward to making things and relationships more and more complicated going forward, said showrunners Gough and Miller in an interview. When they left, the school was closed and this is where a lot of excitement is coming from, the season 2 is expected to come, and we’re all excited to explore the same.
Let’s take a look at another important part of the series, Wednesday’s roommate, Enid. The show is more about female friendship, with Enid and Wednesday being at the center of that, they connected with the audience really well. Now when her feet are dipped into the friendship pool, this is going to be another exciting area to explore. We’re all wondering what it is going to be like.
